Due to "issues", which my lawyer has warned me not to discuss too much in public, house purchase has now officially fallen over. The search continues...

The New Zealand Law Society will soon be running its annual Litigation Skills Programme. This is a course designed to improve the courtroom skills of lawyers throughout New Zealand.

On the final day of the course the participants get the opportunity to present a case in front of a Judge and jury in a mock trial. The Judges are flown in from around New Zealand but we need members of the public to be the jury.

Volunteers will hear both a murder case and defamation case, then will retire and deliver a verdict after each case. This is an exciting day and is a great chance to hear some of New Zealand's future top lawyers in action.

The mock trials are held in the Christchurch Courts on Saturday 23 August from 8.45am–5.00pm. Morning tea, a buffet lunch and afternoon tea will be provided.

Qualified lawyers are unfortunately not able to take part, but if you or any of your friends or family are interested in being a juror at these mock trials, please email your details to sasha.wycherley@lawyers.org.nz.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Due to a complicated series of events I now have 30kg of carrots in my spare room.

I think I need to come up with more ideas for carrot based meals.

Finally it's all mine... The Key to Time Boxed set... my precious, a whole season of Tom Baker goodness in one foul swoop. Complete with the light touch of one Douglas Adams.

But now the difficult choice, leave it in the big purple box or on the shelf with all the other Dr Who DVDs?

For some reason Jellymeat tastes better if dragged along the kitchen floor and eaten on the livingroom carpet.

The Doctor Who Children in need special. I know at least one person who will squeal with girlie glee...

"You've changed the desktop theme haven't you? What's this one - Coral? It's even worse than the Leopardskin!"

"Hey, I'm the Doctor, I can save the universe using a kettle and some string! And look at me, I'm wearing a vegetable!"

"No beard this time...well, he has a wife."

In other news, I just got the new Goverment Valuation on my house. All I can say is holy f**ken Christ, have house prices gone up that much? Seems to me that buying the house and then buying out the ex when I did was a pretty good move

Having fun times at work. One of the managers at another branch has left leaving a mess behind her which it has been pretty much up to me to sort out. Having pissed off most of her staff to the point of quiting is one thing but it turns out that she's been heavily discounting product in order to get her sales targets and thus bonus. This explains why her sales have been so high while her shop looks like shit. Loads of fun.

At least I now look like a Hero of the Revolution to my bosses and got a nice more that little bonus in my pay packet this week.

In other news I discussed the possibility of another job today with someone ,which while it would be quite fun to do, they probably couldn't come up with the money it would need to make the change. Still we'll see what happens.

Ok, for the record I am still alive. Well kind of alive as I have been stricken with the plauge and am feeling rather sorry for myself. However I have chicken soup, toast and Season Three (no it's season 30 damn it) of Dr Who.

Life is quite good really on balance.

I'm having two big shelving units built in my living room at the moment, mostly in a probably vain attempt to tidy up all the stacks of DVDs and books that are spreading slowly and inevitably across all flat surfaces in my house.

I had the following conversation with my builder...

Builder: "OK, here are the plans, these shelves are DVD sized and these are book sized."

Me: "Hmmm, I think we need more DVD space."

Builder: "Look, I measured it there is space for 500 DVDs."

Me: "Hmmm, I think we need more DVD space."

Today was a good day, I got to work to find a nice big courier pack of Ground Effect stuff waiting for me. Ground Effect stuff is a good thing, especially at this time of year.

I also found out that I've won the "Manager of the Year" thing at work, which gives me bragging rights and $1500 worth of travel. Go me.

So this is what my house looks like in day light. A whole day off all to myself. What to do? A whole say to catch up on my life. So...

Do fifty million loads of washing.
Clean the house so that I can invite people around and pretend that I don't live in my own filth.
Go and put some k's in on the bike and attempt to halt my steadly declining fitness
Return overdue library books, get a new recyling bin, yadda yadda yadda...

Hopefully my work/life balance will return to normal levels for the next wee while.

I am now totally addicted to Rome. So nice to watch a historical drama which I can't spot a historical inacuracy (OK, one but that was for dramatic effect and can be forgiven). Please, please let there be a Season Two. I feel the need to go watch I Claudius again.

50k bunch ride after work. Out of Chain Reaction in Riccarton, out to Halswell round the hills and out to Sumner. Back home to Chicken and Noodles and series two of Battlestar Galactica.

Life is good.

Going down to visit Dollbecky if anyone wants a ride.
